Territory
A territory is the geographic area a distribution deal covers, often a single country or a defined region.
Film rights are commonly licensed territory by territory, so the same title can be released by different distributors in different countries. Defining each territory precisely prevents a producer from accidentally licensing the same rights twice.
Territories combine with media rights and time windows to slice a film into separately licensable pieces. Keeping a clear map of which territory holds which rights, and for how long, is central to managing distribution.
