Errors and Omissions Insurance

Errors and omissions insurance, or E and O, protects a film against claims of copyright infringement, defamation, and similar issues.

E and O insurance is effectively the capstone of chain of title. The insurer reviews the rights documentation before issuing a policy, and a distributor will typically require a policy to be in place before a film is released.

A weak or incomplete chain of title makes E and O harder and more expensive to obtain. Keeping rights clean and organized from the start lowers both the cost and the friction of getting insured.
